Why Blog?
The last thing the internet needs is another blog.
Except maybe this one.
Why? We’ll come back to that.
What the internet for sure doesn’t need is another how-to guide for peeling a banana. That’s already been covered in depth using charts, diagrams and expert video (monkeys included). Turns out, I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life. Go ahead and Google it. I’ll wait.
There are a few other things the internet doesn’t need, such as more political commentary, more social media forums, and more advertisements for things we don’t need until we see a cool picture, then we think we need it. This blog will be none of those things. It will also not include:
Recipes. There are plenty out there for everything from buttering toast to baking Greek baklava with honey and pistachios. With so many options at your fingertips you don’t need more from me. I might mention some of my favorite foods from time to time, but any talk of chocolate, fresh-picked peaches, or Taco flavored Doritos should not be misconstrued as a recipe handed down from generation to generation. Although, now that I think about it, mixing those three ingredients together could make a doozy of a casserole. Hmmm. Let me work on that.
Crafts. I don’t paint. I don’t draw. I don’t sculpt. And I’m equally adept with yarn, woodworking, and tile. If you held a gun to my head, I could probably get creative with a bottle of Elmer’s School glue and a package of googly eyes. Outside of that, this blog will not be your go-to for how to make award-winning arts and crafts.
Movie Reviews. I’ll cut to the chase and just tell you now. From where I sit, there are very few really good movies. And the ones that I do like are pretty old, which will age me, so I won’t mention them. If I had to name one movie as my favorite, I’ll say Mom’s Night Out. I laughed and cried all the way through it. Twice. Why? It’s a mom-thing.
Auto-Repair Tips. Never fixed one. Never will. But I can change a tire, and did so back in college on I-5 with traffic zipping by and my male passenger cowering from inside the car begging me to call AAA. My dad didn’t teach me to be a sissy. Even so, if you need to know how to change your fuel pump, don’t look here. I couldn’t tell you.
So then, why this blog?
I’d like to think this blog will offer analysis, commentary, and perspective you can’t find just anywhere. I mean, how many discussions about pumpkin-spice have left you thinking deeper about the meaning of life? I’m thinking not too many. So stay tuned for my next post, and you will get to read just that.
What, then, can you expect from this blog?
My blog will include stories, thoughts on parenting, foster care, adoption, and twins. We’ll talk about current trends (what’s with the tattoos, y’all?) and reminisce about old ones (remember when a postage stamp was 13 cents?). We’ll laugh about ordinary things, from the mundane (dirty dishes, again?) to the spectacular (check out Multnomah Falls when it is frozen!). We’ll talk about things that matter (family, current events, kids, God) and things that don’t (What’s the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?). Together, we will ponder life’s mysteries (Why does my husband photograph his food?) and ask deep spiritual questions (Where is God when life hurts?). Above all, it is my hope that you will find this blog entertaining and encouraging, a bright spot in our increasingly harsh world. A place with words that humor, reflect, and inspire.
So let’s get started.
Who’s with me?
